Since opening in December 2018, Neilsons branch office on Bonnyrigg’s High Street in Midlothian has gone from strength to strength, securing excellent results locally for clients in the area.
Over the past seven years, Neilsons are number 1 in the area for sales on ESPC and Rightmove.
We caught up with Diane Yates who manages our branch in Bonnyrigg to find out about the current market, what makes Bonnyrigg and Midlothian a great place to live and why clients in Midlothian are choosing Neilsons to sell and or buy property.
What’s been happening in the Midlothian property market recently?
“Like Edinburgh, Midlothian continues to see an improvement in average selling prices across the region. During 2025, average selling prices in Midlothian increased by +4.7%. At Neilsons, our sales in Midlothian were up +15.8% in 2025, compared to 2024.
This indicates there is strong activity in both the sale and purchase market and we have been helping hundreds of sellers and buyers navigate the busy Midlothian market.”
What are your top tips for Midlothian sellers and buyers?
“Moving home is one of life’s biggest moments. My aim in all transactions is to take the stress out of the process, and make it a smooth, exciting process for my clients. It is never too early to pick up the phone and start the process. We offer free no obligation initial consultations. Picking the right team is key, this is often your biggest asset. It is really important to instruct a Solicitor Estate Agent that can market your property on all local and national portals, including ESPC, where the majority of our buyer enquiries come from. You cannot sell a property in Scotland without a Solicitor, so it makes sense to have all the work carried out in house. We are also regulated by the Law Society of Scotland, and we are an ESPC Charter firm – we voluntarily signed up to providing clients with a higher standard of service and marketing expertise. On the purchase side, we firmly have our finger on the pulse of all market dynamics and have a range of innovative in-house tools specifically designed to help guide you on Offering. We’ll make it happen!”
What makes Midlothian an attractive area for buyers?
“Midlothian is a desirable location to reside in and appeals to a wide range of buyers from young couples to growing families and investors. There is everything you could want on your doorstep from a range of shops, highly regarded restaurants, pubs and more. Excellent schooling is available in the area ranging from nursery to secondary level and on to higher education with Edinburgh College on our doorstep.
As someone with two teenage sons, I know too well how important it is to have a range of great outdoor, leisure and sporting activities nearby.
Just a few favourites include Dalkeith Country Park, Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic Football Club (c’mon the ‘Rosey Posey’!) and a range of excellent golf clubs including Broomieknowe and Newbattle. Further outdoor pursuits include the highly regarded Midlothian Snow Sports Centre at Hillend.
In addition, it’s well connected to the rest of Scotland by the City Bypass and motorway networks and the Borders rail network.”
You receive great feedback from clients. Why do you think this is?
“At Neilsons our local office on Bonnyrigg High Street is serviced by local staff who reside and work in the local area. Prospective clients can rest-assured that they will be getting the best service and top advice with us whether selling and/or buying.
We have access to the full suite of Neilsons facilities which allows us to provide the best and most up to date advice to our clients.
Our Valuers that cover the area also reside locally. They put a lot of hard work and research into our valuation and appraisal services, this is all done by a person and not a computer or automated valuation tool. We believe our insight and research enables our clients to maximise their sales price by ensuring that their property goes on the market at the correct price to attract interest.
Neilsons is a very friendly and accessible firm that still sees a lot of value by being knit into the fabric of the local community. We believe this makes us best served to understand the dynamics of the local market and act accordingly to get results.
Crucially, client service is of paramount importance to us and the firm, and this is evidence by our wide range of 5-star reviews and client testimonials on Google and Facebook.
It’s been an excellent year in the local area, and we are looking forward to helping more local buyers and sellers in 2026!”
